Intentional Camera Movement

Most of the time it is not desirable to move the camera while making a photograph. However, Intentional Camera Movement, or ICM can be used to produce interesting results. While certain techniques work better than others, there are no rules for ICM. Moving the camera up and down, side to side, or in a circular motion will all produce different effects. The faster the camera is moved, the greater the level of abstraction. Changing the focal length of a zoom lens during exposure creates a different type of effect; see “Zoom Zoom” below.
